Title photo: Santa Fe RDC train passing through San Diego's Rivera station, May 21, 1952.

Photograph by Donald Duke.

The Santa Fe introduced the RDC train to San Diego with two trains. One pair of trains completed the 128-mile (206 km) nonstop trip in 2 hours 15 minutes, 30 minutes faster than previous trains.

In the photo, the two RDC-1s are passing through Rivera station at full speed, ready to reach Los Angeles in the early morning.

Came across this morning. I never knew that Santa Fe operated anything other than regular trains between LA and San Diego. Despite the caption, I believe this is the Rivera (now Pico Rivera) station near LA.

In the book "RAILS TO SAN FRANCISCO BAY"(DEMORO/SAPPERS) there are a few RDC photos ;one photo shows an RDC at Oakland Pier in 1956. awaiting the highball for Sacramento.

Another photo shows WP's "Zephyrette" RDC,waiting on the street at WP's Third Street station(Oakland) in 1956, heading for Salt Lake City.......
